The Nyakagezi Gorilla Group is the sole habituated mountain gorilla family in Uganda’s Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, located in the country’s southwestern region.

As of early 2025, the Nyakagezi group comprises of 9 individuals, including 1 Dorminant silverback, 2 Silverbacks, 2 Adult females, 1Sub Adult Male, 1 Sub Adult Female & 1 Infant Male.

This group is notable for its relatively stable composition and the presence of several silverbacks coexisting peacefully—a behavior that offers unique insights into gorilla social structures.T
